Camping Research Reveals Opportunities For Business Development

Posted in: Tourism

Overview

In 2018 a research report was commissioned by Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park to better understand the priorities of campers visiting the Park, including their satisfaction levels, opportunities for improvements, and the economic impact of their activities.

These insights will inform opportunities for businesses, and for the National Park Authority and its partners, to develop new products and services to meet demand and ensure that campers enjoy a high quality, authentic experience when visiting the National Park.

The overall research aim was to explore the experiences of all types of camper, in relation to these key objectives:

Profile of campers

Planning and booking behaviours and motivations

Profile of camping trips taken in the Park

Evaluation of camping experiences

Reading The Report

The full report is available to download here and provides insights and helpful info on the decisions campers make when booking and planning a trip, their experiences of the area and amenities and importantly their recommendations for the future to increase satisfaction levels and ultimately repeat visitation.

Business Opportunities

As would be expected, the main reasons cited by campers surveyed as to why they chose to visit the area were the scenery, a sense of peace and quiet and to be at one with nature.

From the consultation exercise, campers made a number of recommendations that could present opportunities for development by businesses in the region. These recommendations are as follows:

  • Improved amenities such as access to toilets, water taps and waste disposal facilities
  • More information about other camping areas in the region
  • A greater choice of picnic/ BBQ areas
  • Increased drying areas and shelters
  • Better policing of litter in the area
  • Offering designated ‘quiet’ zones or family camping areas allowing campers to select the experience they require

The research and evaluation was compiled by Progressive Partnership.
